Gracious fall decorations 2018

Hey everyone and welcome! Happy fall to each of you. So this year I was completely inspired by Pier 1's decorations. The colors just spoke to me but the prices weren't something that I was willing to pay. So I challenged myself to get the look I wanted on a shoestring budget and I think that I did pretty good. Now however, for the wreaths on the door. I did purchase those from Pier 1 because with the sale that they had on them I couldn't make them cheaper than just buying them. The pretty creams, soft blues and soft mint green just made me smile. Inside you will see that I added another color to my dining room table.
I bought all white mums this year for my display. I will plant them after the season and see if they will come back. It is kind of hit and miss in the area of the country I live in with them. Sometimes they come back and sometimes they do not. I did recycle a lot of the decorations from the wedding to save $$. Like the galvanized tubs and the burlap trim with lace.
The pumpkin topiary was one that I made a couple of years ago so all that I did was take the traditional fall colors off of it and update it with florals and pumpkins that I found in a variety of different places. Most of which were from dollar tree. They larger pumpkins are from either Hobby Lobby (on sale) or from Michaels (also on sale). I used the Waverly chalk paints from Walmart to paint most of my pumpkins. The colors I used were crystal and celery. For the cream colored ones I first painted those with gesso and then just used a cream colored acrylic paint that I already had in my craft room. For the small foam pumpkins from the dollar tree, I removed the ugly and cheap looking stem that is only held in place by a toothpick and replaced it with stick from my back yard and then added just a little bit of burlap trim around it to give it a little extra something. I also used watered down burnt umber acrylic paint OR the waverly antique wax from Walmart to give my pumpkins some added character and depth. Instead of painting an initial on the one pumpkin which you could easily do, I chose to use an alphabet sticker that I already had in my stash. For the simple reason that I was a little burnt out with painting lettering on things after the wedding. Lord knows I did my fair share of lettering for all of those things and I really wanted something a little faster for this project.
I thought that I would share a close up of the topiary for you. One thing I didn't mention was the metal WELCOME sign hanging on it. I purchased those from the Dollar Tree as well. They were 3 to a pack that had WELCOME, THANKFUL and HARVEST on them. I didn't paint the welcome one but I did however paint the other two as you will see in another project further down.
I found little milk jug at Michaels for 70% off and the florals at Dollar General and Dollar Tree. You will notice one of my small pumpkins beside the milk jug is fabric. That is one of the foam pumpkins from dollar tree that I covered. All that I did was cut strips of scrap painters drop cloth that I already had on hand and glued them on in a criss cross fashion then I added some lace from Dollar Tree and some recycled lace from the wedding. Again I swapped out the original stem and added a stick from my yard. To act as a filler I added some raffia from Dollar Tree to my galvanized bucket. The pillow came from Michaels as well and was 70% off.
Here is a close up of the little fabric covered pumpkin. I picked up my pine cones from the golf course. Since I don't play but love to ride around and watch....it gave me something to do as well.
I am just in love with these colors for fall. They are such happy colors. I normally don't do much decorating for fall because I'm always soooooo excited about the Christmas season coming that I normally just skip all fall.
Here is a little close up of the milk jug. I think it turned out so sweet.
So here we go recycling again. Do you recognize that post?? Yes that is one from the wedding. I just knew that I would find more ways to use those. So the sign I made out of a piece of scrap wood from the wedding. I wanted it to look like it was planked lumber. So I started out first by finding my center and using a scrap piece of 2x4 I used a sharpie marker and made my lines so that it would be somewhat even. It certainly didn't need to be perfect. Then I used a variety of paints to age and stain it. I painted those metal words that I spoke of that I bought from Dollar Tree and then painted my little pumpkin in the middle. The only thing left to do after that was drill a couple of holes and add some thick jute to hang it. I'm really pleased with how it turned out.
I obviously took these pictures at night but hope that you can still see my sign clearly enough.
Next we are going inside for the dining room table...……

So here it is!! I actually started this before I started the outside decorations. Again, my complete inspiration this year was from Pier 1. So as you can see the additional color that I added to my tablescape is navy blue. I think that the navy is what really grounds the other colors here and gives it that warm and cozy feel. Yes I did use things I already had and recycled more things from the wedding. So let me break it all down for you. First off the plates are actually my normal daily plates that we usually use but I needed that color on my table this year so I we are using whatever we have leftover in the cabinet until I change them out for Christmas. The chargers are 8 that I recycled from the wedding. I just painted them a cream color and used a gold metallic paint for the edges. It is similar to the rub n buff paints. Then I really wanted some of the ruffle round placemats like Pier 1 has but I certainly wasn't going to pay what they were asking for them. Yes I could of made some but I really wanted to just get my table completed and was almost ready to drag my sewing machine out when low and behold...I was in Hobby Lobby wandering around and came across these placemats way back in the section where they have the paintable canvas bags....somewhere I rarely ever wander off too. AND not only did I spot them but they were on sale!! SCORE!! The navy and green stemmed glasses my husband found and just loved several months ago at Tuesday morning and I just knew that they would be perfect for the tablescape. I'll tell you more about the napkin rings in a minute.
So I know this is going to sound like a "where's Waldo" statement. But the pheasant that my pumpkins and gourds are in.....(can you find the pheasant?) That is something that my mother in law left us so I filled it full of pumpkins that I found at different places. The larger ones did actually come from Pier 1 but my husband found some in the 70% off section and they were all originally bright gold, matted gold and silver. One of the packages didn't have all of the pumpkins in it so we got an even better deal on those. Of course I painted them all up to match my color scheme. I also painted some of my pinecones to bring in the navy. There are a couple of burlap pumpkins that I did nothing to, that I found at Dollar Tree. And I also reused some of the eucalyptus from the wedding as well. So for the tall candles....yes those are recycled from the wedding tables. I just removed the ribbon that I originally had on those and found some gold feather trim from Dollar tree. Some of the resin pumpkins with the metal leaves on the table are from the Dollar Tree as well. I just painted them of course. They were really heavy and of good quality. I was shocked that they were only $1.
So I will start from left to right in the picture above. The candle holder I found at TJMaxx. As I was checking out they had two sitting there staring at me....yes they were saying.....pick me pick me. So well with that you know I had to make and impulse buy. Then the next candle...for starters I had bought more of the black wire candle holders than we actually used in the wedding to hold our organza on the posts. (If you don't remember what I'm talking about scroll to the previous post on my blog and see where we turned them sideways and used the bottom of the candle holder as a hook) So I thought that I would use a couple of those leftover that I hadn't already painted to lift up two of the navy blue votives that are so pretty in person. The picture doesn't do these justice. I found these mercury votives in the dollar spot at Target and fell in love. Of course I can't go into as store that has any kind of mercury glass and not fall in love. I have to touch it and pet it. Something about it just mesmerizes me.
So here is the other end. It is the exactly the same as the other end. I used two strips of burlap ribbon that I already had on hand for my "runner". Then the other pieces of odd and end them that I used as "fillers" are actually things that I had found in a huge bag of potpourri that I had bought on clearance (of course) at Tuesday Morning. It helped give it that cozy woodsy type feel I thought.
So back to the napkin rings. Sorry that I didn't take a side picture for you to see. I tried but for some reason the picture was always blurry. I'll tell you what I did...first what I DIDN'T do was pay what Pier 1 wanted for these rings. I knew that it would be a good "fakeable/makeable". So with some of those pumpkins we found at 70% off...I painted them to look like the ones they were selling then added some leaves that I bought at Dollar Tree. Then for the rings......I bought a package of plastic shower rings from Dollar Tree and simply wrapped and glued jute around them to cover all of the white plastic then glued my pumpkins and leaves on the flat spot of the shower ring. I did figure up my cost for each napkin ring and it came to .93 a piece...….That is a HUGE savings from what Pier 1 wanted for them wouldn't you say??
Last but not least here is a picture of my fall foyer table. I want break down where all off these items came from because most are ones that I've either had or made myself years ago. I will say that the Blessed pillow and the galvanized milk jug came from Big Lots. They had and probably still have some of the prettiest things this year. (just a little side note....go see what Big Lots has in there Christmas section that they just put out. It's really pretty and very much affordable) I added to the milk jug a few little burlap flowers from Dollar tree to make it more fall feeling. My candle in the birdcage is on a timer and pops on as night falls. Such a warm cozy and extremely cozy feel.
So I hope that you've enjoyed my little fall home tour. I'm really enjoying all that fall has to offer this year. But I do have to say......I'm already thinking Christmas and have ideas going crazy in my head...so stayed turned. It want be long til it's all feeling a lot like Christmas around here. Thanks for stopping by and I hope that you all have a wonderful fall season and may God bless each and every one of you with abundant love and happiness!!
